Mercedes Boss Says S-Class Pullman will Rival Rolls-Royce Phantom

With the demise of the Maybach brand, Daimler has been left without a player in the top segment of luxury cars, where the Rolls-Royce Phantom is now virtually on its own. One could say the Bentley Mulsanne is up there too, but I for one (and RR too), see it more as competitor for the Ghost than the monumental Phantom.

However, it looks like the Phantom will soon have competition, since the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will spawn a Pullman model that will act as the flagship of the brand. In an interview with Autocar, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that the S-Class Pullman will be aimed at the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Tesla Model S Driver Tries Willow Springs Track Day

Electric cars may not be the most adrenaline-inducing to watch on a race track, but they sure are effective, especially over short set distances like Pikes Peak, where the change in altitude gives them real purpose – all-electrics produce peak power regardless of how high you are from sea level. Driver Sends New BMW Straight Into the Water to Avoid a Squirrel

Squirrels are thought of as being one of the cutest and most innocent of the woodland critters, so when one runs in front of your brand new BMW, of course you are going to try to avoid it, even if you run the risk of driving right into a lake and completely totaling your ride. This is what happened close to (and eventually in) San Diego’s Mission bay according to U-T San Diego. Read more »

Scooped and Official: Citroen's New Seven-Seater C4 Grand Picasso

With the brand-new five-seater C4 Picasso's face already out in the open, Citroen is now concentrating on the release of its longer and more spacious sibling, the seven-seater C4 Grand Picasso. Carscoops reader Ludovic sent us a scanned page from the French car magazine Auto Journal with the first official photos of the versatile family MPV, and some details, though; we couldn't make out the main text and numbers.

A search on the interwebs landed us on the Planete-Citroen forums where member Frédoën shared a handful of pictures of the new C4 Grand Picasso that he nabbed parked outside a furniture store in eastern France without a single drop of camouflage.

All-New 2014 Mazda3 Leaks Ahead of Official Reveal in All Its Kodo Design Glory

The all-new Mazda3 has been leaked online by the Czech website Autoforum, with the photo gallery also containing technical data charts of the new Japanese compact car.

As Carscoop's artist Josh Byrnes predicted, the Mazda3 builds on the Kodo design theme from the Mazda6, with the two cars sharing many design elements such as the flowing curved lines above the front and rear fenders, the harmonious combination between the grille and the sharp headlights and the plunged bonnet.

On the inside, the Mazda3 features an all-new minimalistic dashboard that reminds a little of the one from the Audi A3, due to the layout and the pop-up touchscreen. It looks like an ergonomic dashboard, with the controls being clearly delimitated.

The car is slightly wider than the previous generation, with the width being of 1,765 mm (+10mm), while it is 20mm lower (1,450 mm). The length stays roughly the same, at 4,465 mm. It also has a larger wheelbase by 60 mm (2,700 mm), which benefits especially the rear passengers. Boot volume is 350 liters (+10 liters than before), 30 liters smaller than the C segment's reference, the VW Golf hatchback.

Giorgi Tevzadze's Last Drift Video Before His Tragic Death and an Eerie YouTube Message

The devil has divided loyalties when it comes to Giorgi Tevzadze from Georgia, who passed away this week in an unfortunate car accident. On one hand, he was an extremely skillful driver, but on the other hand, when he did apply his talents behind the wheel, he did it on public roads, often disregarding the safety of other motorists (even though some may rightfully claim that he had far more control over his cars than most drivers). This is the next model to join BMW's new 4-Series branded lineup after the release of the Coupe, the Convertible with a three-piece folding hardtop that is destined to enter production in November.

The pre-production prototype is almost undisguised, sans for some bits and pieces of BMW's black-and-white decals here and there, and they can't hide that this particular model features the optional M Sports package with a different front bumper, sculptured side skirts, a rear diffuser and bespoke alloys, along with a lower and tauter suspension.

Most of the reviews we’ve seen of the new Lexus IS have been fairly positive, with some criticizing the car for not having enough power in its base specification, the IS250, as well as the strong styling which is opinion-splitting, with very little chance of a gray area in between – you either like it, or you absolutely think it’s too much… Read more »

Jay Leno Shows Off Finned and Chromed 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88

It’s amazing what sort of cars were considered common in the US in the late 1950s, early ‘60s. They were huge vehicles by any standards, with more space than many modern minivans inside, and pretty much all were flamboyantly-styled and eye-catching in some way. Take Jay Leno’s Oldsmobile Super 88, from 1959. Read more »

Ford Fiesta ST Beats Toyota GT86 on the Track in EVO Test

It’s not the first time the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S) is compared with a front-wheel drive hot-hatch and it’s not the first time it loses when it comes to speed. In this latest test from the UK's EVO magazine, the GT86 proves to be slower round the Bedford Circuit than the Fiesta ST by a significant 1.2 seconds.

I know everyone says how fun the tail-happy Toyota is to drive, but doesn’t speed matter at all for all the GT86’s fans? If I were to buy a €29,000 ($37,990) rear-wheel drive sports car, I wouldn’t like it to be slower than a less-powerful €20,000 ($26,200) front-wheel drive hot hatch. I would probably hate it, to be honest.

Renault Uses Uninspired Ads to Promote Its New Practical Offerings

There are so many ways in which a video ad for a practical affordable vehicle can be made, but it seems that at Renault, having people put in or move out various objects is more than enough.

Sure, it highlights the practical side of these affordable vehicles well, but those in the market for one are already expecting that so it is a bit redundant – it can’t be that hard to make something which is both informative and entertaining to watch with the kind of ad wizardry that goes on behind the scenes.

This Malaysian Driver Will Be The Next Hot Thing On YouTube

We're not claiming to be expert talent hunters (or bearers of bad news), but something tells us that the guy featured in this short clip will be a hot commodity on YouTube and other video sharing channels in the very near future if he continues to practice his ways.

The fearless yet nonetheless brainless Malaysian owner of what looks to be an early 1990s Mitsubishi Lancer sedan (or it's Proton cousin, as pointed out by our readers) from this angle, had a friend film him while he lit up a cigarette using a lighter and the…fuel tank of his ride.

Consumer Reports Finds Chevy Equinox Adequate, But a Bit Behind the Times

Car buyers looking for a vehicle which feels rugged, is simple to use and can take them from A to B in safety and relative comfort are not usually interested in quirky styling cues, or other similar touches which have no functional role, concentrating on the practical issues.

For me, the Chevy Equinox neatly fits into the category, as it’s inoffensive to look at and it’s average-sized (between a compact SUV like a Toyota RAV4 and a full-sized one like a Cadillac Escalade).

Tokyoflash Watch Tells You Both the Time and Whether You're Too Drunk To Drive

If you believe a watch is meant to baffle your friends and passers-by on the street, being used more of a conversation starter than an actual time-keeping device, then this latest watch by Tokyoflash will definitely arouse your interest.

Called the Kisai Intoxicated Breathalyzer Watch, it has just been launched, and as its name suggests, it lets you know if you’re too drunk to drive – it also unquestionably allows you to tell the police officer who has just stopped you “sorry, I have my own…” and get away with it, or at least make him/her break a smile.

Ford Kills the F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition

Ford has discontinued the Harley-Davidson edition of its popular F-150 pickup truck, a company executive told Automotive News.

Scott said the Harley-Davidson model typically made up only 1 to 2 percent of the F-150 total sales. On the other hand, sales of the range-topping Platinum version of the F-150 have exceeded expectations, consequently, the Harley-Davidson edition was dropped.
